Clansman gangster imprisoned for eight years
A Clansman gangster has been sentenced to eight years imprisonment after he admitted to being part of a criminal organisation.
Jordan Markland, a labourer of Spanish Town, St Catherine, was sentenced when he appeared in the St Catherine Circuit Court on Tuesday.
He is the first to be found guilty under the anti-gang legislation which was passed in 2014.
Markland was held by the Spanish Town police during an operation in 2015 and charged under the anti-gang law.
In court, the prosecution led evidence that Markland was a member of the Clansman gang in Spanish Town, St Catherine.
Markland was told by Justice Marcia Dunbar-Green that because he spent one year and seven months in custody he would only serve eight years.
